Enraged by Trump’s conviction, his supporters flooded pro-Trump websites with calls for riots and violent retribution. They expressed their outrage over the verdict.
After Trump became the first US president to be convicted of a crime, his supporters responded with dozens of violent online posts, according to a Reuters review of comments on three Trump-aligned websites: the former president’s own Truth Social platform, Patriots.Win and the Gateway Pundit.
Some called for attacks on jurors, the execution of the judge, Justice Juan Merchan, or outright civil war and armed insurrection.
“Someone in NY with nothing to lose needs to take care of Merchan,” wrote one commentator on Patriots.Win. “Hopefully he gets met with illegals with a machete,” the post said in reference to illegal immigrants.
After the verdict, a poster on Gateway Pundit suggested shooting liberals. The post said, “Time to start capping some leftys,” emphasizing that voting couldn’t fix the situation.
“Afterwards, Trump told reporters that this was a disgrace, a rigged trial by a conflicted, corrupt judge,” echoing his trial-time comments.
The fervor behind Trump supporters’ calls for riots underscores a wider societal schism. Consequently, numerous individuals express disillusionment, viewing the justice system as failing to ensure fair outcomes.
Consequently, as emotions intensify, apprehensions rise about the possible escalation of violence and civil disorder.
Despite calls for riots, leaders across the political spectrum are urging restraint and peaceful protest. The aftermath of the verdict serves as a critical moment for national unity and healing. While grievances are valid, resorting to violence undermines the democratic principles that underpin society.
