A former leading zoologist and crocodile expert, who worked on BBC and Nat Geo shows, has been jailed for 10 years in Australia for sexually abusing dogs. #CrocodileExpertJailed
Adam Britton, who previously advised David Attenborough on crocodiles for a docuseries, pled guilty to 56 charges relating to bestiality and cruelty, according to the BBC.
Britton was once a leading zoologist praised for his work, but he secretly had a sexual interest in dogs. Court documents reveal he tortured at least 42 dogs, killing 39 of them. These files, detailing crimes over 18 months, span more than 90 pages.
The court heard that Britton used Gumtree Australia to find people reluctantly giving away pets due to travel or work. He then took custody of these animals before abusing them.
The Australian Associated Press reported the judge saying: “Your depravity falls outside any ordinary human conception.” It said much of the detail of his crimes were too graphic to publish and at times people were told to leave the courtroom.
Including time already served, Britton could be eligible for parole in April 2028. He is also banned from owning any mammals for the rest of his life.
Although he gained fame for his crocodile research, the court focused solely on the abuse charges. Therefore, the sentence aims to provide justice for the victims and reinforce the legal consequences of such offenses. #CrocodileExpertJailed
Moving forward, this case underscores the need for vigilance in all professions. While expertise in wildlife research is crucial, ethical behavior is paramount. Thus, the Crocodile Expert jailed serves as a reminder of accountability and professional integrity.
