The order restarts the process after the Baltimore State’s Attorney filed a motion to vacate Syed’s conviction. This motion involves the 1999 killing of Hae Min Lee, who was strangled and buried in Leakin Park. The request claims a violation of Young Lee’s right to participate in the hearing.
The court’s 4-3 ruling does not require Syed to be incarcerated again, despite being freed nearly two years ago.
The court’s opinion published Friday morning stated that on remand, the parties and Mr. Lee will resume where they left off after the State’s Attorney filed the motion to vacate.
