Donald Trump has reclaimed the presidency, marking a remarkable comeback four years after his departure from the White House. His return signals a shift in American leadership, one that could challenge democratic institutions domestically and impact international relations. As a result, Trump elected president with significant support in key battleground states. #TrumpElectedPresident

At 78, Trump regained the White House on Wednesday, surpassing the 270 Electoral College votes needed to secure victory, according to Edison Research. His campaign’s intense rhetoric contributed to further polarization within the nation.

The decisive win came with Trump’s victory in Wisconsin, a critical swing state. As of 5:45 a.m. US Eastern time (10:45 GMT), Trump held 279 electoral votes compared to Harris’ 223, with votes still to be counted in some states.

He also led Harris by about five million votes in the popular count.

“America has given us an unprecedented and powerful mandate,” Trump said early on Wednesday to a roaring crowd of supporters at the Palm Beach County Convention Center in Florida, his family by his side.

Many thought Trump’s political career had ended after his unfounded claims of election fraud spurred his supporters to storm the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021, in an attempt to overturn his 2020 loss.

However, he overcame rivals within his Republican Party and defeated Democratic candidate Kamala Harris. He tapped into voter concerns over high prices and alleged, though unproven, increases in crime linked to illegal immigration.

Harris did not address supporters gathered at Howard University, her alma mater.

Her campaign co-chair, Cedric Richmond, briefly addressed the crowd after midnight, sharing that Harris would speak publicly later on Wednesday.

“We still have votes to count,” he said.

Republicans secured a majority in the U.S. Senate, but neither party seemed to have an advantage in the House of Representatives, where Republicans hold a slim majority.

According to Reuters/Ipsos opinion polls, voters listed jobs and the economy as the nation’s top concerns.

Despite record-high stock markets, rising wages, and low unemployment, many Americans remained frustrated by the increasing cost of living. #TrumpElectedPresident

Looking ahead, Trump elected president signifies a major shift in American politics. His policies will likely test democratic institutions, both domestically and internationally. The coming years will reveal how his leadership impacts the country and the world.
