Elon Musk arrived in the tourist resort of Bali on Sunday, May 19, by private jet to introduce the Starlink service in Indonesia.
As per Reuters, Musk and Indonesian Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin launched SpaceX’s satellite internet service for the nation’s health sector , aiming to improve internet accessibility, particularly in remote regions of the archipelago.
Wearing a green batik shirt, he expressed excitement about bringing connectivity to millions in remote parts of Indonesia.
He said, “I’m very excited to bring connectivity to places that have low connectivity. If you have access to the internet, you can learn anything.”
While, the launch event showcased Starlink deployment at three Indonesian health centers, including two in Bali and one on the remote island of Aru in Maluku.
When asked about potential investments in Indonesia’s electric vehicle industry, Musk emphasized his current focus on Starlink.
He stated, “We are focusing this event on Starlink and the benefits that connectivity brings to remote islands. I think it’s really to emphasize the importance of internet connectivity, how much of that can be a lifesaver.”
While, Musk is scheduled to meet Indonesian President Joko Widodo on Monday, where he will also address the World Water Forum taking place on the island.
Meanwhile, Communications Minister Budi Arie Setiadi, present at the Bali launch, confirmed that Starlink is now commercially available.
Furthermore, Elon Musk’s Starlink service underscores the importance of public-private partnerships in advancing digital infrastructure. By collaborating with governments and local stakeholders, Musk’s initiative not only addresses connectivity challenges but also fosters technology adoption and digital literacy.
