CAIRO – At least 42 people were killed in Israeli attacks in districts in Gaza City on June 22, the director of the Hamas-run government media office said.

Mr. Ismail Al-Thawabta informed Reuters that an Israeli airstrike on houses in Al-Shati refugee camp killed 24 people.

Another 18 Palestinians were killed in a strike on houses in the Al-Tuffah neighbourhood.

The Israeli military released a brief statement confirming strikes on two Hamas military infrastructure sites in Gaza City. The statement indicated recent actions by IDF fighter jets in the area.

Hamas did not comment on the Israeli claim to have hit its military infrastructure. It said in a statement the attacks targeted the civilian population and vowed in a statement “the occupation and its Nazi leaders will pay the price for their violations against our people”.

Reuters footage showed Palestinians rushing to search for victims amid destroyed houses in the Al-Shati refugee camp. The footage depicted wrecked homes, blasted walls, and streets filled with debris, highlighting the devastation caused by the airstrikes.

Moreover, the Gaza refugee camp is struggling to cope with the aftermath of these attacks.

In response to the strikes on the Gaza refugee camp, global leaders are urging for restraint and dialogue. The United Nations and various human rights groups are advocating for the protection of civilians and the upholding of international law.

Meanwhile, the local authorities in Gaza are working tirelessly to provide aid and support to the victims. Moving forward, it is crucial to address the root causes of this conflict to achieve lasting peace and stability in the region.
