The Israeli military says it’s investigating an incident where Israeli soldiers strapped a wounded Palestinian detainee to the hood of a military vehicle.

During an arrest raid in the occupied West Bank city of Jenin on Saturday, the incident happened and Reuters verified it on video.

It shows the vehicle passing through two ambulances with Palestinian resident, Mujahed Azmi, on top.

Eyewitness Raafat Azmi:

“My cousin Mujahed was wounded and stayed here for about two to three hours. We were sitting here when the Israeli army put him on the hood of the jeep, and later they told us they took him to the governmental hospital.”

The Israeli military stated that Israeli forces fired at and exchanged fire, resulting in the wounding and apprehension of a suspect.

The statement indicated that the soldiers violated military protocol when they took the suspect while tied on top of a vehicle.

The Israeli military stated that the forces’ conduct in the video does not conform to its values.

It added the individual was transferred to medics for treatment.

Violence in the West Bank, already rising before the Israel-Hamas war, has since escalated. Frequent army raids on militant groups and deadly Palestinian street attacks intensify the conflict.

Furthermore, this Israeli forces raid drew immediate criticism from various international bodies and human rights advocates. Many called for an investigation into the conduct of the soldiers involved.

Additionally, videos and photos of the incident circulated widely on social media, amplifying global awareness and criticism.
