JERUSALEM (Reuters) -Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu dissolved the six-member war cabinet, as an Israeli official confirmed on Monday. This move had been widely anticipated after centrist former general Benny Gantz departed from the government. The dissolution indicates internal political changes and strategic realignments within Israel’s leadership.

Netanyahu will discuss the Gaza war with key ministers like Defense Minister Yoav Gallant and Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer. They were previously part of the war cabinet.

The prime minister faced pressure from nationalist-religious coalition partners including Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich and National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir. They sought inclusion in the war cabinet, which could strain relations with international partners, notably the United States.

The forum was formed after Gantz joined Netanyahu in a national unity government at the start of the war in October and also included Gantz’s partner Gadi Eisenkot and Aryeh Deri, head of the religious party Shas, as observers.

Gantz and Eisenkot both left the government last week, over what they said was Netanyahu’s failure to form a strategy for the Gaza war.

Netanyahu has reportedly dissolved his inner war cabinet, according to an Israeli official. This move signals a significant shift in Israel’s defense and security strategy. The decision comes amid changing geopolitical dynamics and internal political pressures. The international community will likely monitor closely any developments following this decision.
