JAKARTA – E-commerce firm Shopee said on June 25 that it agreed to make changes to its services in Indonesia. The country’s antitrust agency said the platform admitted to a Shopee antitrust violation.
Indonesia’s antitrust agency, KPPU, stated that Shopee admitted to violating anti-competition rules. This followed accusations last month regarding directing customers to specific delivery services.
“Shopee is always committed to complying with all applicable regulations and laws in the Republic of Indonesia in conducting our business operations,” Shopee Indonesia’s head of public affairs Radynal Nataprawira said in a statement.
Shopee also said it had proposed changes to its user interface to demonstrate compliance in providing best services to its users and in accordance with the feedback from KPPU.
Aside from Shopee, KPPU has also been investigating the local unit of another e-commerce platform Lazada, the South-east Asian arm of Alibaba. REUTERS
These changes will likely affect various aspects of the platform, including pricing strategies and partnerships.
Ultimately, the Shopee antitrust violation serves as a reminder for all businesses to remain vigilant about regulatory requirements. By addressing this issue proactively, Shopee aims to restore trust among its users and stakeholders.
Moving forward, Shopee’s efforts to comply with antitrust laws will be closely watched by industry observers.
