Vietnam Netflix Games Ban

Vietnam ordered Netflix Inc to halt advertising and distributing games by April 25. The country’s broadcasting authority cited the lack of a license for gaming services. Vietnam’s recent directive instructing Netflix to cease advertising and distributing its games has sparked significant debate and speculation about the country’s regulatory stance on digital entertainment. In response to growing concerns over the influence of foreign media platforms, the government’s decision signals a pushback against perceived cultural intrusion. Despite Netflix’s global expansion, including in Vietnam, the move reflects Vietnam’s efforts to assert control over its digital space and protect its cultural integrity from external influences, thereby addressing the Vietnam Netflix Games Ban.

“Vietnam demands Netflix comply with the Vietnamese regulations on game online services,” the Authority of Broadcasting and Electronic Information (ABEI) said a statement on its website.

“We order Netflix to stop advertising and publishing the Netflix’s video games on the Netflix application and on Appstore Vietnam and Google Play store Vietnam before April 25,” the statement added.

The streaming platform, which has been ordered by the government several times to block domestic access to various content, is seeking to open an office in Vietnam, Reuters has reported.

Moreover, the Vietnam Netflix Games Ban underscores the intricate dynamics at play between technology, culture, and regulation in the country. As Vietnam advances in modernization, it must adjust regulatory structures to accommodate shifts in digital media consumption. Consequently, this task accompanies digital integration.
